Hi, I’m Sarah, and welcome to Violets for the Soul, a journal of sorts celebrating special moments and everyday miracles that bring me joy. It’s dedicated to my mother, who often used the phrase “violets for the soul” to mark seemingly insignificant occurrences that spoke uniquely to her. Whether it’s the sound of a child’s laughter, the buzz of a hummingbird or the thrill of a glorious sunset, I look for “violets” and share them here. My hope is to spread joy when it seems we need it more than ever. Thanks for reading along — let’s gather a big bouquet together!

And a bit about me
I’m an avid collector of “violets for the soul” and stories to share through my love of gardening, cooking, travel, books, fitness, music, art and antiques.
Happily retired, I’m blessed to have worn many hats as a newspaper and magazine journalist, advertising copywriter, freelance writer and editor, public relations professional, PTA mom and nonprofit fundraiser.
I’m proud to be a native Texan; a third-generation alumna of The University of Texas at Austin; and a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Kappa Alpha Theta, the Texas Exes, Strawbridge United Methodist Church, and the ecumenical women’s choir Sola Gratia. I love spending time with my husband, our family and Jacques, a coton de tulear rescued after Hurricane Harvey.
