Violets for the Soul

About the author

Through her love of gardening, food, travel, books, music and antiques, Sarah Oliver Watson is an avid collector of “violets for the soul” and stories to share. She is a native Texan and a third-generation alumna of The University of Texas at Austin.

A former magazine and newspaper journalist, Sarah retired in 2020 after 16 years in Public Relations and Development at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Her writing, editing and media relations skills have earned recognition from the Houston Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America, the Houston Press Club, the Texas Public Relations Association, the International Association of Business Communicators, Ragan Communications, the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education, Texas Press Women, the National Federation for Women in Communications and Hearst Newspapers.

Sarah is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Kappa Alpha Theta, the Texas Exes, Strawbridge United Methodist Church and Sola Gratia, an ecumenical women’s choir. She enjoys spending time with her husband, their five grandchildren and Jacques, a coton de tulear rescued after Hurricane Harvey.
